an air-metro police pilot makes final preparations before takeoff.
with his jump jetbike fueled up and armed, he'll join other pilots and patrol a designated grid section.

note engines stand almost vertically for landing gear to extend. engines pitch for forward flight, rapid accent/descent and hovering. cannon is housed in front engine cowling. to the right is some kind of processing plant with ships bringing in supplies.

thanks. never heard of blame before, but you gotta realize there are hundreds of manga titles here. i googled it and i see some similarities. maybe tsutomu and i are on the same wavelength of ideas, lol.
btw, the tokyo international anime fair is next weekend(and this weekend is the anime illustration festival featuring character design artist haruhiko mikimoto(macross, gundam, and megazone 23)). if you got the time and money, it's worth checking out. thanks again.

This is preety impressive, man. Great work making it. I don't like the purplish colouring in the upper right corner, though, it doesn't fit really with the futuristic environment.

thanks for the comment. originally, i had a blue sky but i was trying for a moody type of artwork, so i changed it. it went from blue to orange to purplish.

incredible... you've come a long way since those not-so-simple robots.. integrating so much into your new compositions. Its very inspiring in many ways, and I suppose you knew I would ask this sooner or later.. did you have some work that really inspired you?.. visuals that you tried to capture?.. I know something like this is a long progression .. but I am really curious as to some of your steps of development.

it's no problem asking me these questions, actually, i enjoy answering them, lol. actually, moving back here to japan gave me the "kick start". there are a lot of inspiring architectural structures, high-tech vehicles, and tons of art books that have helped me to create "my world". i also spent over 1000 dollars on training dvd's from the gnomon workshop online store and concept art books. i can't stress enough how great and inspiring they are, particularly, ryan church's (concept artist for star wars ep 2 and 3) training dvds. can you see where this is going? I have the inspirational ideas from just being here in Tokyo and I have the resources(dvds) to help me create those ideas effectively, and voila...a sekido artwork.lol. here's something i learned(from a book, actually): think of something that you want to create, then create the shape with black color thus creating a silhouette, don't worry about the details, yet. the shape of the object is as important as the detail and the shape itself will spark ideas. after you're satisfied with the shape, add detail inside the object. that's how most of my futuristic scenes start off. the last artwork i did started out as black shapes and gradually colors were added. as for the jetbike design, i was looking at various military aircraft. regarding the city design, it was inspired by ryan church. i hope this will help you in your future creations.

thanks. if you look at the largest lightray, you can see 3 very tiny flecks(behind the processing plant) going up and following the lightray path. they give you a sense of how big the city is. thanks again.

well, i don't know. i saw how human figures are drawn near objects to show scale, so i did the same to compare them with the city structures. i just thought it would be cool to put object in direct light with long shadows trailing.

I've noticed the small humans too but they don't fit into the picture while your methods wors in the same way and adds to the feel and still serves the same purpose as the dummies does. :D

That is one cool job.

I wish there was a game that allows you to do something like that in a city like that. Most games fail in at least one area. Too linear, no freedom to go where you want or they screw something up.

There isn't a single game that would portray a world like that like it's supposed to. Maybe if I win Acclaim's MMO contest, I could make my own.
